Beaver Dam 05-23-09

The high groove was Jeff Steenbergen’s domain all evening.  Starting the Legend feature on the inside of the third row, Steenbergen quickly moved to the top of the track and made his way to the front.  Steenbergen battled side by side on the straightaways with early race leader Brad Weber for most of the middle portion of the race, which was slowed seven times in the first thirteen laps.  Steenbergen took over the lead of the race at about the halfway point.  On the restart after the final caution, Weber made a final run at the lead diving down as low as possible and inching past Steenbergen in the turns.  The straightaways were another matter though as Steenbergen would power past Weber.  With four laps remaining in the race, the handling seemed to go away on Weber’s Legend allowing Eric Barth to take over second and Greg Hartlaub to challenge for third.  Steenbergen ran away and took the checkers for his first win of 2009.  Barth crossed the line in second with Weber holding on to third.  Hartlaub and Kevin Brill rounded out the top five.
