Joel Wyttenbach of Sauk City found the high groove to his liking as he methodically worked his way up from the fifth row to take over the lead on lap eleven of the 20-lap Gibbsville Cheese INEX Legends/Wisconsin Legends Racing Dirt Series A-Main at The Raceway at Powercom Park on Saturday night. Once out in front, Wyttenbach stayed with the groove that he used to get there and went onto claim his first win of the season.
Greg Hartlaub of Sheboygan Falls jumped into the lead at the start of the event followed by Joe Surprise of Beaver Dam and Phil Van Tatenhove of Sheboygan Falls. Van Tatenhove would bring out the first caution of the race when he had trouble in turn four. Hartlaub continued to lead after the restart. Wyttenbach continued his march to the front and moved into second on lap seven. Ed Surprise of Beaver Dam spun in turn four on lap eight to bring out the caution for the second time. One lap later, the caution flag waved again for Van Tatenhove who had come to a stop in turn four. On the restart, it was Hartlaub followed by Wyttenbach, Adam Reed of Beaver Dam, Joey Johnson of Slinger and Eric Barth of Sauk City. Hartlaub worked the low groove while Wyttenbach put the pressure on working on the high side. On lap eleven, Wyttenbach edged ahead of Hartlaub to take over the lead. Barth slipped past Reed to take third on lap fifteen. The final caution of the event came on lap seventeen for debris in turn three. When racing resumed, Wyttenbach proved to be too strong for the rest of the field. Wyttenbach would take the checkered flag ahead of Eric Barth of Sauk City. With their one-two finish, Wyttenbach and Barth are now tied for the point lead in the division at The Raceway at Powercom Park. Warren Ropp of Kalona, IA finished third ahead of Greg Hartlaub of Sheboygan Falls. Adam Reed of Beaver Dam was fifth.
In heat race action earlier in the evening, Warren Ropp slipped past Joe Surprise in turn two of the final lap and went onto pick up the win in heat one. Joel Wyttenbach edged Greg Hartlaub at the line to claim the win in heat two.
