By Mary Horneck - edited by Steve Boelter Manitowoc, WI - July 15, 2006 The INEX / Wisconsin Legends Racing Dirt Series Legend Car
20-lap A-Main ran green flag to checkered without incident as Phil
Vantatenhove of Gibbsville charged out into the lead in the early
laps with Greg Hartlaub of Sheboygan Falls moving into second place
by the third lap. Hartlaub quickly made up the distance between his
car and leader Vantatenhove and at the line in lap six, Hartlaub
pulled alongside Vantatenhove to pressure for the lead. As he
charged on the outside of the track, Hartlaub took over the lead a
lap later. With Hartlaub focused on enhancing his lead, Eric Barth
of Sauk City took over second place by inches as he raced side by
side with Vantatenhove at the line in lap nine. Barth set his sights
on leader Hartlaub as the two charged side by side down the back
stretch and through turns three and four to race down the front
stretch to complete lap eleven with Hartlaub holding onto the lead.
Two laps later, Barth ducked his car to the inside coming out of
turn four to beat Hartlaub to the line and take over the top spot.
In lap fifteen, heat winner Warren Ropp of Kalona, Iowa pulled
alongside Hartlaub and inched him out to take over second with five
laps to go. Barth remained strong and charged through the checkered
to win the INEX / Wisconsin Legends Racing Dirt Series Legend Car
A-Main. Barth also won the INEX / Wisconsin Legends Racing
Dirt Series Legend Car feature race earlier this year at Manitowoc.
Ropp followed in second with Hartlaub in third. |
