Twenty-nine cars were on hand for a special night at The Raceway at Powercom Park on Saturday night. The event served as a qualifying event for the INEX Legends Nationals to be held in Missouri in October. The legend cars also raced in memory of Ryan and Mindi Vanderboom who passed away following a motorcycle accident in May. Ryan was a regular competitor in the division.
It was another race to the wire in the Gibbsville Cheese INEX Legends/Wisconsin Legends Racing Dirt Series 20-lap A-Main. Joel Wyttenbach of Sauk City jumped into the lead at the start of the event from the pole position and drove off to a comfortable lead while the rest of the field battled for position. Adam Reed of Beaver Dam settled into the second spot followed by Joey Johnson of Slinger and Eric Barth of Sauk City. Barths race would end early as he had a tire go down forcing him from the event before the halfway mark. Brad Weber of Rolling Prairie charged from his fifth row starting position to take third on lap eight. Weber quickly began to challenge Reed for the second spot. A spin by Michael Bilderback of South Beloit, IL in turn two on lap thirteen brought out the first caution. Wyttenbach led on the restart, but now had the field bunched up behind him. Weber & Reed pressured Wyttenbach until the caution flag waved again on lap sixteen for Bethany Wyttenbach of Plain who came to halt on the front straight. This set up a four-lap dash to the end when racing resumed. Wyttenbach was working well on the high groove while Weber and Reed worked the low groove. On lap eighteen, Weber forged ahead of Wyttenbach. One lap later, however, Wyttenbach powered his way back out front. Weber made one more bid on the final lap, but Wyttenbach edged out Weber for the win. It was the third victory of the season for Wyttenbach. Reed followed in third ahead of Keith Moline of Cedar Rapids, IA. Warren Ropp of Kalona, IA drove to fifth. Greg Hartlaub of Sheboygan Falls, Joey Johnson, Phil Van Tatenhove of Sheboygan Falls, Michael Bilderback and Lane Swearinger of Eldridge, IA rounded out the top ten.
Ryan Miles of Crystal Lake, IL captured the B-Main win over Loren Zuhlke Jr. of Beaver Dam and George Giesen of Neenah. Steve Boelter of Verona was fourth. Brian Peterson of Mukwonago took fifth.
Heat race wins were registered by Eric Barth, Joel Wyttenbach and Brad Weber.
